A real natural disaster unfolded over Kremenchuk this year (1917). The overflow of the river and the onslaught of water, as a result of the breach of the barrier dam five versts from the city, turned out to be so fatal that it was not without human casualties. Rainy weather decided the fate of Kremenchuk, and the water, breaking through the dam on April 10, gradually flooded the city over the course of 3 days, except for a small area in the central part of the city. During the restoration of the dam, as well as in the houses that collapsed, several dozen people drowned. Damages to the city reach 8 million rubles.
