The sculptural group stood until 1956. In accordance with the decision “On the plan of measures for the improvement of the city in 1957” (dated 09.05.1957), it was decided to reconstruct the square. Work began in 1958. Over the next two years, the entire square was paved with paving stones and then covered with a two-layer asphalt concrete coating, asphalt sidewalks, outdoor lighting, entrance stairs to the station building, a granite parapet, a fountain, and landscaping were installed.
