Mansion of General Gutovsky Kremenchuk Ukraine photo 746

Особняк генерала Гутовського Кременчук Україна фото 746

At the end of the 19th century, General Gutovsky built a mansion for himself at the corner of Kievskaya and Meshchanskaya streets (now Sofievskaya street, 1, formerly Chapaeva). This house is a rare example of a modernized classic in the city, which has survived to this day. Here you can find antique stucco made of vases, torches, military fittings, and a columned portico near the courtyard facade, and a classically strict pattern of cast-iron grating and stair railings enclosing the estate. Mrs. Gutovska rented out apartments in the house at the beginning of the 20th century. Further traces of the Gutowskis are lost. After the revolution, Gutovsky’s house was nationalized. During the Civil War, it housed various military institutions.
