The Germans built the pontoon bridge on September 11, and on the same day Kleist’s 1st Panzer Group began crossing it to the left bank of the Dnieper. On the morning of September 12, German tanks launched an offensive from Kremenchuk in the direction of Khorol, and on September 15, having linked up with Guderian’s 2nd Panzer Group in the Lokhvitsa area, they closed the encirclement for the Soviet troops of the Southwestern Front.
