For the female soldiers of the Red Army, the propaganda of the Wehrmacht had a clear term – Flintenweiber, literally “gun woman” or “woman soldier”. With the help of this nickname, German propaganda tried to connect the social phenomenon and the image of the enemy in the form of “red furies” that had been common since the Russian Civil War. In reality, this was reflected in the prisoners of war of Soviet female soldiers.
