The angle of inclination of the Leaning Tower of Pisa became less by 4 centimeters. This was due to preventive maintenance work carried out by scientists from the University of Pisa. Now the “physical form” of the Tower of Pisa has become much better than it was before. The preventive measures of scientists who have been carried out for 20 years, have allowed to change the roll of the building, according to the Italian news agency ANSA.
Experts from the group that monitored the architecture of the Square of Miracles and the “falling” tower in particular, argue that the famous bell tower is now stable. The angle of the historical tower after reconstruction has changed by 0.5% and is 4 centimeters. Experts emphasize that the oscillations of the tower per year now do not exceed 0.5 millimeters, which makes the structure more stable than it was before, reports ANSA.
Recall that the construction of the world-famous buildings lasted almost two centuries. A white marble tower of about 60 meters high in Pisa was built from 1173 to 1360 years. The amazing slope of the tower, most likely, arose because of the incorrect design of the structure. This structure is famous not only for its angle of inclination, but also for the fact that it was used for its experiments in physics and mechanics by Galileo Galilei.
After the tower was erected, its roll gradually increased. However, during the entire period of its existence, they tried to strengthen it, and in the 90s of the 20th century they even created a special expert association, which is engaged in observing and studying the “falling” tower.
