January 28, 2020, marked the 95th anniversary of the birth of Halyna Mykolaivna Ponomarova (January 28, 1925 – August 3, 2006)—an Honorary Citizen of Kremenchuk, a talented educator, and an intelligent, hardworking woman.
Fate linked her to Kremenchuk and endowed her with a strong character, seriousness, prudence, and a balanced approach to views and actions, while simultaneously gifting her with humanity and kindness. Perhaps all of this was so that she could pass these virtues on to current and future generations of Kremenchuk residents, leaving behind a legacy—a profound and distinctive mark in the memories of those who knew her, worked with her, saw her every day, and learned both academic knowledge and life wisdom from her. Today, the subject of Halyna Mykolaivna’s pedagogical experience, professional growth, and numerous contributions to the city is gaining renewed relevance and fresh perspective. Much has already been written about Halyna Mykolaivna; newspaper articles, recollections from her students and colleagues, and published local history studies are all readily available.
